This time of year where I live, my gardening friends are bringing me lots of beautiful chard, rainbow and white stemmed.

I found this recipe for a green smoothie -yum

Swiss Chard Green Smoothie with Lime and Banana Recipe

2-3 cups Swiss chard, de-stemmed and roughly chopped
1-2 large bananas, fresh or frozen
1/2 lime, chopped
1 cup ice
In a blender, preferably a powerful one like Blendtec or Vitamix, add chopped Swiss chard leaves, bananas, lime and ice. Blend on the highest speed until smooth and creamy.

Here is a recipe for a blueberry smoothie since blueberries from BC are in the farmer’s markets. If you are not into smoothies, do what my mom does and freeze the washed and dried berries on a cookie sheet then put into bags for the freezer.

Blueberry-Almond Smoothie
1-1/2 cups fresh blueberries

1/2 cup plain fat-free Greek yogurt

1/4 cup slivered almonds

2 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk or skim milk

2 teaspoons honey

1 cup ice cubes
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Purée until smooth.
Serves 2
